  • Transatlantic Media Fellow Chris Smyth, from The Times of London will be visiting Madison on June 19-22, 2012.
    Chris Smyth is a Health Correspondent for The Times of London where he covers issues ranging to the politics of the NHS to the latest medical advances. He combines the management of his patch with investigations into topics such as the resurgence of tuberculosis and the failure of health services Information Technology. Previously Chris was a news reporter on The Times and a Nico Colchester Fellow at the Financial Times Brussels covering EU politics and European business. Chris has a PhD in history from Cambridge University as well as a degree from Oxford University. His first novel, Dinner at Mine, was recently published in April 2012 by Simon & Schuster UK.   • "Europe at the Crossroads: The Euro Crisis and the Future of European Integration" April 25, 2012, 4:00 pm, The Pyle Center, Alumni Lounge, 702 Langdon St.
    The European Union Center of Excellence will hold a seminar on the Eurozone Crisis featuring George Ross, ad personam Chaire Jean Monnet at the University of Montreal, Arthur Goldhammer, Senior Affiliate of the Center for European Studies, Harvard University; and Menzie D. Chinn, Professor of Public Affairs and Economics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The panel is open to the public, and will be followed by a small reception.   • "The Global Marketplace II: One Day K-12 Teacher Workshop" April 25, 2012, 9:00 am, 309 Pyle Center, 702 Langdon St.
    The on-going global economic crisis has done much to highlight the significance of the study of international economics and the interconnectedness of regional and national economies worldwide. UW-Madison faculty, graduate students and regional outreach specialists along with guest speakers from the community will discuss aspects of the global economy, explore the ways in which specific regions and countries have been affected by economic crises, and present resources and opportunities available for the study and teaching of international economics, national economies, and business practices. Specific themes for this workshop include Fair Trade, Microfinance, NGOs, the European crisis and the prospects for the euro. The workshop schedule is now available.
  • The European Higher Education Area: Retrospect and Prospect, by Kris Olds
    On the eve of the 2012 Bucharest Ministerial Conference, which will be held on April 12-13, and the 2012 Bologna Policy Forum, which will be held on April 26-27 in Bucharest Romania, Kris Olds revisits the issues of Bologna Process and Modernization of Higher Education in Europe in his blog.   • Seminar, "The European Debt Crisis: Impact on US Business?" Videos of the seminar are now available.
    The seminar on the impact of Euro Crisis on US Business, featuring Mark Copelovitch, Affiliated Faculty of the EUCE and Assistant Professor of Political Science, and Scott Anderson, Director and Senior Economist at Wells Fargo was held on January 17, 2011 at the Fluno Center.
  • November 18, 2011. Mark Copelovitch, "The Euro Crisis: Greece, Ireland, and the Future of Single Currency." Video of the lecture is now available.
    The lecture by Mark Copelovitch, Affiliated Faculty of the EUCE and Assistant Professor of Political Science discusses the future of the single currency in the European Union. The video is now available from Wisconsin Public Television University Place.
  • Madison East won the Euro Challege 2012 Regional Preliminary Round and will be representing Wisconsin National Finals on April 30 in NYC.
    For the second year running a team of sophomores from Madison East High School has won the Midwest Regional Round of the EU-sponsored Euro Challenge Competition. Held at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago on March 28. The National Semi Finals and Finals Euro Challenge 2012 will take place on April 30, 2012 at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
  • Reinventing the Industrial Heartland: Supply Chain Sustainability and the New Automobile Industry Conference: Videos of presentations and reports are now available
    This conference held on October 6, 2011 at Fluno Center brought together scholarly experts, public officials from Germany and Wisconsin and representatives of the automotive sector for inquiring the future of the automobile industry in Wisconsin.   • K-12 Outreach News: EU Lesson Plans Available!
    The European Delegation to the United States has designed a modular series of 10 European Union lesson plans meant to support History and Social Studies curricula for grades 9-12 (but also adaptable to Middle School).
