Professor of Economics and European Policies at the ESCEM School
of Business and Management in Poitiers, France
Wednesday, 4 October 2000
3 4:30 p.m.
Room 4151 Grainger Hall (Directors Room)
François Descheemaekere, Professor of Economics and European Policies at the ESCEM School of Business in Poitiers, France, is the author of six books on the Euro and on European integration. He was an active member of the "Groupeuro" of the European Commission for the preparation of the Euro.
Professor Descheemaekere will present a speech on the social and cultural impact that the Euro is having on the process of European integration. To what extent can the Euro be seen as leading to a more united Europe? A more inclusive Europe? Or is it rather leading to a Europe of haves versus have-nots? Is the Euro leading to a deeper definition of Europe in social and cultural terms? He will address these critical questions during his presentation and during the question and answer period to follow.
