12:30-1 p.m. Short tour of the Paris 1900 exhibition by an Elvehjem docent
The tour begins in Paige Court and proceeds to the exhibition in Gallery VII
1-2 p.m. Readings for Children from French Classics (in English) Selected and read Ronnie L. Hess, Director of Communications, International Institute The readings will take place in Gallery VI among the American paintings in the Paris 1900 exhibition.
Selections include: Joan of Arc by Boutet de Monvel, a well-known French children's book illustrator Around the World in Eighty Days by Jules Verne, considered the father of science fiction Our Children by Anatole France (illustrated by de Monvel); a story about a child whose father is an artist.
Following the stories, children attending the readings may participate in a special picture search activity in the galleries. The readings are most appropriate for children 6-10 years old. All children must be accompanied by an adult; admission in the gallery is limited to 70 people.
2-2:45 p.m. Lecture on "Transatlantic Influences at the Turn of the Century" by Laird Boswell, Associate Professor of History, UW-Madison, room L140. Professor Boswell, whose specialty is French history, will lecture on French perceptions of the United States around 1900.
3 p.m. UW Horn Choir Holiday Concert Led by Professor Douglas Hill, UW-Madison School of Music. This annual event will include French hunting music, French carols, and other special selections. A reception with refreshments will immediately follow the concert.
