The European Union Center The Center for World Affairs and the Global Economy (WAGE) The Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER) The Institute for Legal Studies and University of Wisconsin Law School with support from The La Follette School of Public Affairs, The International Practice Section of the Wisconsin State Bar, and the Madison International Trade Association are pleased to cosponsor the following lecture in the WAGE Transatlantic Relations Speakers Series: "Resolving U.S. - European Disputes Through Law: Is WTO Law Effective?" by William J. Davey Thursday, February 13, 2003 Professor William Davey was the first Director of the Legal Affairs Division of the World Trade Organization, where he worked from 1995 to 1999. He then returned to the University of Illinois College of Law where he has taught courses in international trade and European Community law since 1984. Professor Davey is the author of Legal Problems of International Economic Relations (2001, with Jackson & Sykes); European Community Law (2002, with Bermann, Goebel & Fox); Handbook of WTO/GATT Dispute Settlement (1991-1998, with Pescatore & Lowenfeld); and Pine & Swine: Canada-United States Trade Dispute Settlement (1996), as well as numerous articles on international trade law issues. After his graduation from the University of Michigan Law School in 1974, he served as a law clerk to Judge J. Edward Lumbard (US Court of Appeals-New York) and Justice Potter Stewart (US Supreme Court) and worked in Brussels and New York for the law firm of Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton.
